Eudemon found an obscure record with William Burroughs, John Giorno, and Laurie posing on the cover. He lined up to have her sign the album. She sat at a low table, resulting in the supplicants having to kneel to have her sign. Eudemon knelt and asked her about the lyrics of a song as she drew a bubble circle over Burrough’s head. “Hi,” she made him say. “What did ‘Milwaukee, Big dogs!’ mean?”

What Do Standardized Test Scores Really Prove?

Suppose for a moment that they had gotten away with it, that no one had found out. Suppose for a moment that the scores had come in, showing a quantum leap in student achievement without any suspicion of wrongdoing. The assumption would be that Palmer Elementary School, 1900 N. 1st St., had been doing everything right, that they were perhaps the only school in the district that had adequately prepared its students to master the content of the Terra Nova exam.

Recent news stories about two sisters accused of neglect and murder crippled me emotionally. How could they keep their dire circumstances hidden, and did they have anyone in their lives to save them from themselves…to save the children from them?

Ten-inch worms that set up housekeeping in the arteries of the heart and lungs cause heartworm disease in dogs, and it strikes many beloved family pets in our area each year. The disease is spread by mosquitoes, and no dog is out of its reach in the U.S. Though the heaviest infection rates are along the Mississippi River and its tributaries, heartworm is found in all 50 states. Southeastern Wisconsin is a high infection area.
