By Cameron Cook and Monique DiGiorgio Local coordinator Cameron Cook is gathering a team to clean the North Avenue Dam area as part of the Great American Cleanup 2002 River Cleanup. Anyone interested in helping should meet at the east end of Riverboat Road, past the Wheelhouse Dinner Theatre, on Saturday, April 27. Cleanup will start at 8:30 and go until noon. Riverboat Road is off of N. Humboldt, south of North Avenue. The team will focus on the area directly under the North Avenue bridge, on the west side of the Milwaukee River. The south boundary is the North Avenue Dam embankment; and the group will go as far north as time allows. Sponsored by Friends of Milwaukee Rivers, the River Revitalization Foundation, and local businesses, this is the 7th annual spring clean-up of area rivers. Gloves, bags, gift certificates to local events, plus food and beverages for participants will be provided the day of the cleanup. Additional sponsors are providing a limited number of T-shirts. Questions? Call Cameron Cook at 476-8390.
