Outdoor Market Debuts in July

The indoor market, scheduled to open for the fall season, was constructed with a focus on natural light and ventilation as well as other “green building techniques.” The structure will have 21,500 square feet on the ground floor and 13,000 square feet on the second floor. A total of 24 vendors will occupy the main floor. Two fresh produce stands with vegetables, fruits, spices and flowers are planned for the center of the market. In spaces around the edges, shops will offer cheese, bakery goods, fresh meats and seafood, ice cream, soup, and specialty foods from Wisconsin.

Brady Street Pedestrian Safety Program

“There were 17 pedestrian fatalities in the city last year,” said Police Chief Hegerty who introduced Operation Safe Crossing. “New stronger laws will be enforced regarding motorists yielding the right of way to pedestrians. For motorists who fail to do so, they will be fined $133 and lose four points off their driver’s license.” Police officers ticketed six motorists that morning, in one half-hour, at downtown crosswalks as part of the new campaign. A proposed bill would also double the fines for speeding within the city of Milwaukee. “We’re definitely going to make the streets safer, and hopefully we’ll have a safe summer.”
