Dr. Ian Harris is known as the “Father of Peace Education.” He has spent most of his 32 years at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee pioneering in the field of peace studies.
But his passion, and his inspiration, is the tract of wilderness between the Friends Meeting House and the Milwaukee River.
I did a double take “no, he didn’t say that!” when I read the mayor’s ignorant claim (October issue) that the “root cause” of current youth crime is a high rate of teen births in 1993. I was repulsed by his bias and disappointed that Riverwest Currents gave a voice to his foolish bigotry. Then I read Bushell’s editorial and understood why this ugly, unsubstantiated attack on young single moms was promoted.
Appearing this month instead of the usual editorial essay and reader letters, is an open letter from Nancy Vogel regarding her resignation from the Riverwest Neighborhood Association (RNA) board and a response from the RNA board. Vogel is the fifth board member to resign this year.
