Shiraz
Look for Shiraz Persian Foods and Spices on Oakland Ave. between the Subway shop and Trattoria restaurant, but look carefully — if you blink you could miss it. Don’t let size fool you, though. The little store’s shelves are stocked with all the ingredients that cooks need to please a Persian’s palate or anyone’s taste that appreciates good curries, hummus, and aromatic teas.
Sweat Equity
Jake Henes walks to work. This may not seem unusual, but it is, considering that Henes spends all day fixing cars. Henes, owner of Riverwest Automotive Service (801 E. Keefe Ave.), which opened in July, lives a few blocks from his shop. He does brakes, tune-ups, exhaust, electrical and engine repair, as well as custom work.
Shalem Healing

Fox, who has a Master of Science degree from the Midwest College of Oriental Medicine in Racine, uses the Eastern approach to the body and healing along with Western science. “I use the ancient wisdom and the modern technology,” he explains.
Hot Diggity Doggs
