Zappo! An artist who lives and works in Wisconsin has been dubbed (by Milwaukee Art Museum spinners), as “one of the most widely admired landscape painters in America.”

One way to keep your tootsies dry this summer is to hit Bremen Cafe’s 9 p.m. Wednesday Mountain Music gathering featuring old-timey tunes… Past-timey is the word for the Don & Bo TV show, now a no-go. Thoroughly dissed by the media, their few fans included schmoozters Doris & Boris who see no evil ever.

June is busting out, so go go to Luckystar’s June 5 benefit for the Hotboards, www.thehotboards.org, a Riverwest based non-profit to help at-risk youth learn the life skills skateboarding provides. 6 p.m. 207 E. Buffalo — the place to silently bid on decks painted by the likes of Von Munz, a Stonehouse named Tony, Adam & Laine from Adam Bomb Tattoo, Jenny Bohr and more. DJ Rock ‘n Roll Evan entertains, and eats are a treat from Riverwest’s Foundation. South a bit, at KMArt, RW artists Mark Lawson and Mike Fredrickson wax nostalgic until June 19 in Lil’ Buddies: Memories We Always Wanted…

If you missed art critic James Auer‘s March 31 comments in the Journal Sentinel, stop and pay attention. He’s piqued by artists who, when speaking to the public about works they’ve produced, express themselves with “like you know, ah, um.” He suggests art schools should incorporate public speaking into their curriculum. Wise words from one who is not only a concise speaker and writer, but also a fine photographer. There is help out there: for instance, Woodland Pattern Book Center hosts a free, ongoing Writers Workshop on Wednesdays.
