Most people dread doing it. I must admit I almost always leave it to my husband. It’s a dirty job and yes, someone has to do it. I’m talking about scooping dog poop. If you live with a dog, you probably know what I call the “Riverwest Routine.” You either carry plastic bags in your coat pockets, purse, and car if you have one, and/or you have a small yard that gets quickly overtaken by pooh. It seems there is never enough time to keep up with the ongoing accumulation. Especially in winter months, yards can suffer from neglect and lack of regular cleaning. The sight of some yards come spring thaw can be overwhelming. I think it can be assumed that dogs don’t like to walk around in their own waste while looking for a spot to stand and go. It’s unsanitary if they track it in the house on their paws. The yard is unusable by humans during summer months, and mowing can be a messy job if it isn’t cleaned up. I was recently contacted by a new business in Riverwest, K9 Waste Removal Services. Friends Tom Griffin and Matty Janik are two young Milwaukee men with the dream of working for themselves exclusively some day. They pondered small business ideas and did some research. Since they both love dogs and working outdoors, they teamed up to start a weekend business cleaning up dog doodoo, for a small fee. The two put together an informational flier outlining their services and set out to spread the word. After only a few months working Saturdays they have a clientele of more than 15 homes where they are keeping things neat and tidy on a weekly basis. People are happy and dogs are happy. “It’s all about satisfaction. We guarantee our customers will be happy with the job we do,” said Janik. Both men have full-time day jobs but enjoy their weekend excursions to clients’ homes and hope waste removal will be their sole source of income in the future. “We have a lot of fun together and look forward to our Saturday route. It’s the best job I’ve ever had,” said Tom Griffin, whose Riverwest home office serves as the business headquarters. “We’re also giving 1% of our profits to the Wisconsin Humane Society,” he added. Their latest promotion is a free first-time clean up, and they also offer a 10% discount to seniors and for emergency one-time clean ups if someone is having a party or event. Clean up plans are extremely flexible and there is no contract. In addition, they also offer pet food delivery. Save yourself some time and give your pooch a clean place to do its duty. Leave the scooping to K9 Waste Removal Services. To request a brochure or free estimate from this local business, call 414/227-7091 or 414/628-3420.
