REFERENDA
These Referenda will be on the November 7
ballot in the city of Milwaukee.
1. Gay Marriage Amendment – State of Wisconsin
A proposed state constitutional
amendment to limit marriage (and
anything resembling marriage) to
one man and one woman.
“Marriage. Shall section 13 of article XIII
of the constitution be created to provide
that only a marriage between one man and
one woman shall be valid or recognized
as a marriage in the state and that a legal
status identical or substantially similar to
that of marriage for unmarried individuals
shall not be valid or recognized in this
state?”
2. Wisconsin Death Penalty – State of Wisconsin
In 1853 Wisconsin became the first
state in the union to abolish the
death penalty. This referendum
seeks to reinstate it.
“Should the death penalty be enacted in
the state of Wisconsin for cases involving
a person who is convicted of first-degree
intentional homicide, if the conviction is
supported by DNA evidence?”
3. Irag War Referendum – City of Milwaukee
“Shall the United States commence a
humane, orderly, rapid and comprehensive
withdrawal of United States military personnel and bases from Iraq?”
