Do you know anyone who gets paid to ride their bike to work? Last October the Urban Ecology Center initiated an idea that has been brewing since last winter. How can we get people to drive less?
The candidates answer this month’s question, “What role should the city take in developing the Park East Corridor? Do you support the Community Benefits Agreement?”
A resident of the Washington Heights neighborhood, Riemer is running on a strong platform of fiscal responsibility and government efficiency, issues to which Walker also pays plenty of lip service. But Riemer, a moderate Democrat, says there’s a real difference between their strategies. “Walker is consistently underestimating expenses and overestimating revenues. This is NOT an honest budget,” he says, referring to the county budget passed last month.
Riverwest Currents publisher and neighborhood activist Vince Bushell was honored as an “Unsung Hero” by the Milwaukee Common Council in November. Bushell was one of four people nominated by Third District Ald. Mike D’Amato for their service to the community. Among the list of accomplishments cited by D’Amato were Bushell’s dedication to Garden Park and the farmer’s market, his role in starting the Riverwest Co-op, his work on the Currents, and his dedication to the neighborhood Fourth of July celebration. . . .
Ten mayoral candidates were asked the following questions this month; only candidates who answered are listed. Most responded by email. The questions: 1) Are you in favor of a bike lane on the Hoan Bridge? 2) How would you deal with city budget difficulties?
