Neighbor Spotlight – Cyrille & Sveta Davidson

Cyrille Davidson is a fourth grade student at Pierce Elementary School in Riverwest. She is also part of the Community Learning Center that takes place at Pierce until 5pm. After the regular school day commences, the school becomes a Community Learning Center of (CLC) and students are offered the option to participate in different activities such as African Dance, Chess Club, and Woodland Pattern’s Urban Youth Literary Arts after-school classes.

CHILI MADNESS Once again, local radio station WMSE plans to holds its Rockabilly Chili contest, and competition in Riverwest is hot and heavy. You won’t want to miss the Riverwest Co-op’s Chili Cook-off scheduled for Sun, Feb 22 at 5:30 PM at Club Timbuktu, 520 Center St. To enter your prized vegan or vegetarian recipe, contact Michelle Jones at virgotron@; deadline is Feb 15. Then go to the WMSE competition and vote vote vote on Sun, March 8, 11AM- 4PM at the MSOE Kern Center.

Neighbor Spotlight • Irene Wergin

“People live longer than they used to,” remarks Irene Wergin.
At ninetythree years old she certainly has the perspective to make such a statement.

After all, being born in 1915 means that her family and friends included people who came of age in the 1800s. And with a sharp and amazingly supple mind she is capable of capturing in words stories that bring to light not only her history, but also that of many of our families.
