Milwaukee’s young Hip Hop community, which has a strong base in the Harambee neighborhood, flexed strong campaign support of McGee and celebrated his victory on April 15 at an Open Mic Showcase at Onopa. McGee earned the community’s support based on his history of good relationship building and empowerment of many of the city’s artists, from the Taste Emcees to Baby Drew. “I have been deemed the Mayor of the Hip Hop Community for years! I have literally raised many a Hip Hop Artist/Soldier,” he says.

Holton Street is an 18-block stretch of urban contrasts — from the industrial and commercial bustle of Capitol Drive on the north, to a tumble of shops, churches, bars, and gas stations, down to the bridge at Brady Street on the south end. It is chock-full of houses, both carefully cared for by diligent homeowners and careworn by negligent owners. It is a street of timeworn commercial edifices that once teemed with the interchange of neighborhood commerce.
Strong differences in voting patterns emerged in the primary mayoral campaign on February 17 in Riverwest’s two aldermanic districts, the 3rd and the 6th. The finalists in the mayoral race, Marvin Pratt and Tom Barrett, will face off on April 6, and nowhere is the voter preference contrast so strong between the two than in these two districts. Pratt received his highest percentage (80%) in the 6th District while Barrett got his highest percentage (54%) in the 3rd District.
Frigid, below-zero temperatures did not prevent more than 70 residents from gathering to hear seven candidates for the 6th District aldermanic race voice their platforms for leadership and answer pressing questions from their constituents about education, crime, business and nonprofit development, and taxes.
