The winter of 2007- 2008 went on record as the snowiest of the century when 12.4 inches of snow fell from 6 am on Good Friday, March 21 until Saturday at 4 am. It’s the second highest total in Milwaukee with 96.9” – just behind the top spot of 109.8” in 1885-86.
All of the previous snow had just melted down when the city got socked again on the second day of Spring. If this keeps up, number one is just around the corner!

Milwaukee is a city with great diversity. The many differences among its residents make for a unique blend of culture, race, age and socioeconomic status that sets this city apart. Trying to understand the health needs of such a diverse population can be challenging.
Unlike the lengthy waterways of Green Bay and Chicago, the rivers of Milwaukee do not go much of anywhere. You can’t get to New Orleans or even Madison by canoe from here, but you can dock a really big boat. “The port of Milwaukee has the broadest bay and deepest channels on the western shores of Lake Michigan,” observed local author John Gurda while summarizing the history of our city through the lens of its three rivers.
Appearing this month instead of the usual editorial essay and reader letters, is an open letter from Nancy Vogel regarding her resignation from the Riverwest Neighborhood Association (RNA) board and a response from the RNA board. Vogel is the fifth board member to resign this year.
