I also suffer from the fifty-fifty syndrome, and the only way to cure this illness is by segregation. So let’s segregate all neighborhoods by race. Let’s put the white people on the east side, the Latino people on the south side, the Black people on the north side and put all other races way out west.

I am writing you this letter to make you aware of an egregious insult and disservice your officers of the 7th District levied against the City’s young people last week. . . . In support of their efforts, Mecca assisted with media relations for the event and extended our venue for an under-21 “after party” and fundraiser later that evening. When I arrived to unlock the building for Teen Poetry at 7 p.m., however, a police officer (Sgt. Marshall) was waiting for me. He said that Cpt. Ruzinski had instructed him to “make sure this [event] doesn’t happen.”

The educational part of my class trip began Sunday, May 19. My class and I attended morning Church services at the 16th Street Baptist church in Birmingham, Alabama. The church was made famous when it was bombed by the Ku Klux Klan in 1963, killing four young African American girls.
Walking into Calvin Greer’s spacious Victorian home, you encounter two of his most highly valued African Art pieces on exhibit: a Benin (Nigeria locale) Oba bronze and a Bamun (Cameroon) fertility figure. The restored Victorian dwelling at 2463 N. Palmer St. is more than a home for people. The Greer Oaks Art Gallery is home to artifacts from multiple art traditions.

We as a people should spend more time focusing on our heritage. It is African American history month, but we should always be learning and analyzing ourselves.
