Holton Street: Where East Meets West

Holton Street is an 18-block stretch of urban contrasts — from the industrial and commercial bustle of Capitol Drive on the north, to a tumble of shops, churches, bars, and gas stations, down to the bridge at Brady Street on the south end. It is chock-full of houses, both carefully cared for by diligent homeowners and careworn by negligent owners. It is a street of timeworn commercial edifices that once teemed with the interchange of neighborhood commerce.
Comic Destroyed at Dossier Project Event

Local commix artist Tea Krulos recently participated in the Milwaukee Artist Resource Network (MARN) “Dossier Project,” an event focused on criticisms of the Patriot Act. Krulos was surprised to receive a call from one of the show’s curators, Peter Goldberg, telling him that his piece, “Weedapeeple,” was discovered torn to shreds near where it was being displayed. “I am challenging the vandals to a boxing match,” said Krulos. “If they win, I will give them more of my art to rip up. If I win, I will behead them.”
