The Riverwest Neighborhood Association with assistance from the Riverwest Business Association put together a Request for Proposal (RFP) for a new Riverwest Neighborhood sign. These signs will be installed on various street light poles throughout the neighborhood.
Some asked why a new image? What’s wrong with the old sign created in the 1980’s when the city commissioned an artist to create several neighborhood signs? Many residents felt Riverwest needed a new image that better reflected the neighborhood. A new sign had been a topic at community meetings for a few years now.
We received 29 submissions from 9 different artists, and there were a lot of amazing designs. A committee of 15 made up of residents, business owners, and marketing professionals chose the 3 designs that the public voted on at various community events. The winning design will be unveiled on Saturday August 6th at Center Street Daze Festival around 11:30 am right before the Art Cart Race begins.
We would like to thank all of the artists who submitted and did not advance into the finals: Cody Gunderson, Maureen Kane, Claudio Martinez, Trisha Mundt, Tes Schaff, Dave Watkins.
The final 3 designs were created by David Arnevik (far right), Helene Feider (middle image) and Allison Waller (bottom) . With over 300 residents voting at the 4th of July celebration, Skyline Music and the Farmer’s Market, we know all 3 designs have support. There will be posters for purchase at Center Street Daze Festival, so if your favorite design doesn’t win you can buy a poster and put it in your living room.
