Jugglers, street theater, a pool tournament, vendors, a car show, music, food and crafts! You can find all of these and more events and activities at the 11th annual Center Street Daze on Saturday, September 20 from 11am to 7pm on East Center Street from Humboldt to Holton.  “This festival showcases Riverwest, its businesses and its culture. It is the last street festival of the season and should be a good time,” says Ruth Weill, festival organizer. “It’s a closed-off street festival with live music, art vendors and kids’ activities.”  The event kicks off at 11am with the Art Cart Race, sponsored by the Riverwest Artists Association, in which human-powered carts show off their creativity. The 2004 winners of the Art Cart Race, “Hell on Weil,” took first in a flash…literally… when they lit a stream of gasoline on fire from the back of their cart. Other famous, or infamous, carts included a magic carpet themed contraption, a railroad boxcar, and even a “whips and leather” themed cart with a human “horse.” So don’t be shy and get those wheels turning, no pun intended, on what cart you can create! Contact Mark Lawson at 414-264-4797 for more info.  The Uptowner, Timbuktu, Riverhorse and other bars in the area will host live music stages. The Uptowner will also sponsor a pool tournament, with proceeds going to the Vince Lombardi Charitable Funds that supports cancer clinics in Milwaukee and Green Bay. Kids’ activities at the festival will include face painting and street theatre.  Milwaukee Network for Social Change’s last Free Market of the season will be at Center Street Daze, and there will be various vendors selling arts and crafts, jewelry and photography. Peace Action Wisconsin and the Riverwest Neighborhood Association will be among the neighborhood organizations with a booth at Center Street Daze.  For booth application and more info contact Ruth Weill at 414-350-2107, or ruthweill@ gmail.com.
