Health Matters: WEB ONLY STORY Fueling Young Minds By Emily DeLeo Summertime brings sunny days, music festivals and free summer meals for kids!  Once again, Hunger Task Force’s Fueling Young Minds program is providing free meals at locations throughout Milwaukee, thanks to a grant from the Harley-Davidson Foundation and support from Milwaukee Public Schools and other community agencies. The Riverwest area will have four schools hosting free meals: O.W. Holmes, Gaenslen, Pierce and Fratney.  All children ages 18 and under are welcome to stop in for breakfast or lunch without any pre-registration or paperwork.  Keep in mind that the meal sites are open to any kids, regardless of income or where they attend school.  Breakfast is served from 8:30 am until 9:00 am and lunch from 12:00 pm until 12:30 pm, Monday through Friday. There are a total of fifteen free summer meal sites in the 53212 zip code.  For more information on locations and times, please dial 211 or 866-211-3380 from a cell phone. Approximately 40% of children in the city of Milwaukee live in poverty.  These children rely on the free and reduced-price meals they get every day from school.  Thanks to the Fueling Young Minds program, children in our community will continue to be well fed throughout the summer as well.  Locations where Fueling Young Minds meals are available: O.W.
