Some people, when compelled to take action regarding a specific issue, will demonstrate or protest. Others, like the Earth Poets, take action with words. On April 18 and 19 the Earth Poets will be joined by various musicians at the Urban Ecology Center and the Coffee House to address environmental issues, and call people to action through their poetry and lyrics. This 21st anniversary event will include performances by Jahmes Finalyson, Louisa Loveridge-Gallas, Holly Haebig, Jeff Poniewaz, Suzanne Rosenblatt, Harvey Taylor and special guest James Godsil. The poets’ first performance will take place at 8 pm on April 18 at the Urban Ecology Center, 1500 E. Park Place, and the cost is $5 per person, or $10 per family. There will also be interactive poetry and music for the whole family starting at 7 pm. their second performance will be held at 8 pm on April 19 at the Coffee House, 631 N. 19th Street, $5 donations accepted. The perfromance by the Earth  Poets is a great one for the entire family to enjoy. It is also a great opportunity to explain to your children the importance of caring for our planet, and brainstorm ways you can be environmentally conscious at home. Talk about recycling or conserving water, and maybe they will be compelled to write a poem of their own! Photo: Earth Poet Jeff Poniewaz in the Milwaukee River Valley.
