Hop Sheng Gourmet at 2430 N. Murray Ave. opened recently, and promises to deliver — yes, deliver — excellent Chinese cuisine to the East Side and Riverwest neighborhoods. Chef Hao Sheng Wu was praised for his work at Peony by no less than Milwaukee Journal-Sentinal food critic Dennis Getto in his June 21, 2002 column. Chef Sheng attended Kuangtung Culinary School in Guangshou, China, and worked there for four years before coming to the United States. Specialty of the house is the three course Peking Duck. The first course features the crispy skin and meat served with Mandarin pancakes and Hoisin souce. Second course is shredded meat stir fried with bean sprouts and scallions. Third course is soup made from the bones of the duck, with tofu and Napa cabbage. Who could resist?
