Performance, Mixed Media/Dance and Theatre Susanne (Benish) Carter of Carter Productions announces a facelift to her original one-woman show, WELCOME TO MY MID-LIFE CRISIS! This revised and expanded production is a sexy, zany, whimsical, and hilarious look into one woman’s search for her lost libido. Ms. Carter, with tongue-in-cheek, discovers the dilemma caused by examining the good and not so flattering aspects of her own persona. Using thirteen unique scenarios, she creates pathos in comedy and tragedy to create a multi-generational piece that touches on issues near to everyone’s heart. The show is inspired by -the empty nest syndrome, aging of the World War II generation and the on- set of menopause. Using music, dance, stand-up comedy, pantomime, monologues, and text, a theatrical extravaganza unfolds. A sound score by Dan Gnader connects interviews of local citizens to create a backdrop. Performances are scheduled for August 7, 8, and 9, 7:30 PM at Walker’s Point Center for the Arts, 911 West National Avenue. Ticket prices are $10 for adults and $8 for students or senior citizens and can be purchased by calling 414-871-1523. * * * Welcome to My Mid-Life Crisis! is revised from the original, Before We Die, premiered at Alverno College in April 2002. Created over a two-year period Ms. Carter received support from the John Anson Kittredge Fund and the Gardner Foundation. On November 13, 2003, a command performance took place at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Sponsored by the Socio-Cultural Programming Committee, the event was received warmly by a standing-room-only crowd. Future bookings are being planned. This new version was created specifically for the intimate theatre at Walker’s Point Center for the Arts, a multi-disciplinary art center. Ms. Carter has expanded the show to include storytelling and a dramatic tribute to the World War II Generation. Interviews of individuals from this generation are used in the sound score and were conducted at Washington Park, Clinton Rose, and Luther Manor senior citizen centers in Milwaukee. Theatre students from the UW-Milwaukee Peck School of the Arts Theatre Program, act as stage-hands assisting with choreographed costume changes. They become part of the show and bring to light the energy and spirit of today’s student generation. Susanne Carter has been active in the Milwaukee dance community for over 25 years. Known for her work as a choreographer, director, and educator, she has worked with schools, churches, community groups, and local arts organizations. As a stand-up comic she was selected as a final contestant in WKTI’s Funniest Woman Contest held in October 2003. Ms. Carter is the creator of the Positive Body Workout taught through the UW-Milwaukee School of Continuing Education. Paul Carter is an accomplished guitarist and was lead guitarist for the local rock groups King Daddy and Big Car. He is presently studying jazz with Don Linke and is featured in the production. Welcome to My Mid-Life Crisis! uses a mixed media approach to discover it’s many themes and highlights. The overall premise of the show is the passing on a legacy of the World War II generation to the next generation of “baby boomers” to keep the history alive. Ms. Carter’s artistic style is a blend of dance, the use of original monologues and text and a comedienne’s eye for humor. They are: -menopause and related issues -demands of mid-life -care of aging parents -one’s own children becoming adults -humor as a basis for looking at one’s life. Carter Productions is a husband/wife artistic team committed to bringing unique multi-media productions in collaboration with other organizations into the community. Future projects include a tour of Welcome to My Mid-Life Crisis! and the development of a children’s show, Who Am I? For further information see www.carterproductions.com.
