FROM: Jerry Patzwald, Chair, Development Comm. ============================================== 1. METRA Motion 2. Minutes, Development Comm. — 1. Chicago-Kenosha-Racine-Milwaukee Commuter Train (METRA) Endorsement The Development Committee of RNA has approved a motion to endorse the extension of METRA commuter train service to Milwaukee. A motion will be presented by the Development Committee at the May 13 meeting of RNA to also gain the support of the general membership. The endorsement of RNA would be added to a diverse group including Mayor Norquist, County Executive Scott Walker, major SE Wisconsin corporations and economic development interests and environmental groups such as the Sierra Club, Green Party & 1000 Friends of Wisconsin. We believe this service will benefit our region in the following ways: -Offers travelers an affordable transit option with numerous stops in the Milwaukee-Chicago corridor. -Offers a travel option unhindered by weather or traffic delays. -Acts as a catalyst in revitalizing city centers & areas around the stations. -Will make our area more attractive to companies that employ the highly skilled workers of the new economy. -Is a more environmentally friendly transit option. — 2. Development Committee Meeting Minutes of May 3, 2003 Members present: Sonya Jongsma Knauss Tom Nehrbass Jerry Patzwald- chair & notetaker I. Minutes approved from April 5 meeting. II. Approved a motion supporting the extension of METRA commuter rail service from Kenosha thru Racine to Milwaukee. The service currently originates in Chicago. Motion will be presented to general membership of RNA at their May 13 meeting. III. Gentrification Position Paper: Recommended changing the name of the document to “Development Position Paper.” Decided not to send the Paper to various stakeholders until we accurately analyze rental increases in the neighborhood. We will ask the general membership of RNA at May 13 meeting to assist in gathering current data for analysis. Discussed idea of having Alderman DAmatos office communicate to RNA, governmental land sales & development proposals affecting Riverwest. Information of this nature is helpful as early in the process as possible. Decided to implement one aspect of the Paper at the next Development Committee meeting on June 7. We will deliver copies of the Currents as well as the RNA mission statement & meeting times to residents of the Beer Line Community on Commerce Street. IV. Next Meeting = Saturday, June 7 @ 1 pm. Meet under the Holton St. viaduct. We will distribute the Currents & RNA info to our new neighbors & later conduct our meeting in Kilbourn Park (weather permitting).
