by Vince Bushell Need a home repair loan and can’t get one? The NHS program may be for you. This program is designed to serve homeowners in the City of Milwaukee who because of equity, credit, or income issues, may not qualify for a standard home equity loan. NHS, Neighborhood Housing Services of Milwaukee, out of its NeighborWorks home ownership center, 635 N. 35th St., is offering this program. Osvaldo “Ozzie” Anchondo will be happy to help you out with the process. The purpose of the loans is to finance renovations that protect or improve the basic livability of the property. You can use the money to correct code violations, fix mechanical systems or structural problems, remodel kitchens and baths, repair exteriors, add safety features, make energy conservation improvements, and reduce lead hazards. This program is available to owner occupied 1-4 family properties in the City. Loan decisions will be based on an analysis of income, indebtedness and credit history. The minimum loan is $1000 and the maximum is $25,000. This program is provided by NHS and a consortium of lenders. Call Osvaldo “Ozzie” Anchondo for more information at (414)344-3013. Contact Vince Bushell with other housing questions at (414) 263-1380.
