Vince’s personal philosophy revolves around the idea to GO. “It’s not just saying you are going to do things, but actually going and doing them.” Since writing the strategic plan for the area, Vince has been active in the Riverwest community.

There’s a feeling in the air, and it has nothing to with meteorology. It might fall under the wide category of sociology or even anthropology.
It’s a sense of empowerment and a willingness to fight the status quo.
It’s a true reflection of the word “community,” which means, literally, “with union.”

Sean Kafer has a map of the Mississippi near Madrid, Iowa from 1877. It shows the main channel of the river surrounded by wide meandering channels colored red or blue, wandering miles into the surrounding countryside. “That’s the way the river was. It changed course every year,” Sean says.

Victory Garden – Kilbourn Reservoir

Several years ago, a seed was planted in Riverwest – the seed of an idea for a community garden as part of the revitalization of the Reservoir at Kilbourn Park. This spring that seed began to sprout.
