Hike the Beer Line Loop for National Trails Day

“See the Pyramids along the Nile…” oops, wrong river, wrong song. “Roll out the barrel…” oh, never mind, but there is an active brewery on the River (Lakefront Brewery, 1872 N. Commerce St.), and if you join us on this first Saturday in June you will see where it is, among the condos and near the Milwaukee Rowing Club boat house, which is under construction.

Ah, Spring Again…

Time to come out of hibernation. There really is nothing like sun on your skin and the gentle play of the spring breeze. It’s a kind of pure delight that reminds me of being a kid. I find I do some of my best thinking and writing while I am running through the streets and parks of Riverwest, though they’re not nearly as distraction-free as the cornfields I used to run past growing up.

The River’s Bend: Mandel’s Housing Development Plan for Humboldt Yards

A housing development is being proposed for the nearby bluff and slopes of the Humboldt Yards. The entire development goes by the name of RiverCrest, which at least rhymes with Riverwest. As part of the development, a pedestrian bridge may someday link the east and west banks of the Milwaukee River pictured here between Caesar’s Park and the Humboldt Yards. The bridge would sit atop the remains of the North Avenue dam.
