Neighbor Spotlight – Jeff Poniewaz

Interviewing Milwaukee’s new Poet Laureate at the Urban Ecology Center is perfect. Not only is Jeff Poniewaz considered an eco-poet and a nature poet (he differentiates between the two in that the former carries a message, a call to action), he also sat on the original board of directors of the Riverside Nature Center which eventually morphed into the Urban Ecology Center. Quite at home, he exhibits pride in the place where, until recently, he taught his UWM course, “Literature of Ecological Vision.”

Beerline AS ARTery

Artery – a path for the life blood of the body. A main connector. ARTery – a ‘creational trail in
Milwaukee’s Harambee neighborhood as envisioned by the group beINtween led by Keith Hayes and
friends.

BeINtween and Hayes like to play with words in defining their art and vision. For many this project may be news but not to those “connected” to the group by social media. If you want to see their vision in detail please visit beintween.ning.org and I recommend searching around for videos they have posted.
Hayes has given the following information about the trail :

If you haven’t already, check out the old Albanese’s building on the corner of Keefe Avenue and Pierce Street. It’s looking like it could give The Pfister a run for its money, which wouldn’t be too far of a stretch, considering they are both designed by the same architect, Charles Koch.  (Hours of operation at end of story)

History: Decision to Begin a Master Plan for Milwaukee’s Central Park – 2008

By the end of 2008, members of the Milwaukee River Greenway Coalition decided they could and should start work on a master plan for Milwaukee’s Central Park. The members of the MRGC were the groups most intimately connected to, involved with, and informed about the corridor. They had been involved with the corridor for long periods of time. They possessed the information and shared a vision for the future of the corridor.
