Down by the River… Urban Fishing is Back!

The fish are biting again in our own backyard – the ever-improving Milwaukee River. Since the removal of dams at North Avenue and in West Bend in recent years, the river channel is narrower, the water temperature cooler, and the current more free-flowing. Though sewage dumping and other problems persist, there is much cause for optimism surrounding this precious resource. To a degree once unthinkable people and wildlife are returning to the river.
Lanterns for Peace 8/9
Peace Action’s 17th annual Lanterns for Peace event on Saturday, August 9, will be part of an expanded program, “Rhythms for a Nuclear Free World,” featuring a variety of world music. The concert begins at 4 p.m. at Pere Marquette Park, 900 N. Plankinton in downtown Milwaukee. Exciting Changes In Store For Urban Ecology Center
Evolution. It is a natural process through which all things grow and change. Most of the time these changes are for the better, allowing species to run faster, fly higher, or do things that previous generations couldn’t do. Now, it is time for the Urban Ecology Center to take a step forward in its evolutionary path, and from the looks of things it’s going to be a mammoth one.
