Police Against Peace: An Open Letter to Chief Jones

I am writing you this letter to make you aware of an egregious insult and disservice your officers of the 7th District levied against the City’s young people last week. . . . In support of their efforts, Mecca assisted with media relations for the event and extended our venue for an under-21 “after party” and fundraiser later that evening. When I arrived to unlock the building for Teen Poetry at 7 p.m., however, a police officer (Sgt. Marshall) was waiting for me. He said that Cpt. Ruzinski had instructed him to “make sure this [event] doesn’t happen.”

The Riverwest Music Scene: Plentiful and Diverse Sounds

As Jim Linneman says of seeing people perform for the first time at his Wednesday open stage: “It’s just that feeling – I can feel it from them. . .that is my favorite night of the week.”

A furtive, anonymous person has charged the Riverwest Currents with “censorship.” The River Neighbors Association is trying to muscle the Riverwest Neighborhood Association into changing its name. RNAmail members are pondering gentrification and dog poop. And the Brewzerkus was jailed in St. Louis. CASH has only begun to fight freeway expansion….

Defining Our Assertive Ambivalence

The true ignorance of the peace protesters isn’t demonstrated by their opposition and protests before the war began, however. It is fully demonstrated by their continuing demand for the withdrawal of US troops even after the war has ended. The futility and stupidity of this gesture amazes me….
