April 1–Milwaukee mayoral candidates Marvin Pratt and Tom Barrett joined today in asking the news media to shift the spotlight from their campaigns to the Milwaukee County Executive race in the final days before Tuesday’s election.
“We’ve enjoyed the attention, but let’s face it — there is only so much you can say about us,” Barrett and Pratt said in an unusual joint statement.
A one-and-a-half lot, city-owned parcel on E. Kane Place could soon be home to a small, “sustainable, green building” development including a unique “strawbale” house. Julilly Kohler, Brady Street developer and community activist, is hoping to buy the property at 1152-1158 E. Kane because she’d like to live there.
I caught the March 16 protest of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel by Pratt supporters on the news recently. Many African American faces, a couple white. Polarizing. A phone call from a concerned friend: “Girl, how many white faces did you count?”

I’ve lived in Riverwest for two and a half years — first as a renter, and now as a homeowner. For 12 years prior, I lived at 17th and Hadley. When Marvin Pratt started his career on the Common Council, he was my alderman there, and I’ve known him since that time. I want to see him elected mayor on April 6.
