I know trying to define one’s public persona is near impossible, and it may be presumptuous of me to assume I have one. However, publishing a paper puts me in a situation akin to an ambitious prairie dog that is constantly sticking his head up out of his hole. Sooner or later someone is going to take a shot at the dog.

“See the Pyramids along the Nile…” oops, wrong river, wrong song. “Roll out the barrel…” oh, never mind, but there is an active brewery on the River (Lakefront Brewery, 1872 N. Commerce St.), and if you join us on this first Saturday in June you will see where it is, among the condos and near the Milwaukee Rowing Club boat house, which is under construction.
On May 13 the Riverwest Neighborhood Association’s monthly meeting did not disappoint those who came expecting the usual packed slate of engaging, timely, and sometimes intense discussions. . . . With Alderman D’Amato on hand, RNA members took the opportunity to cover a lot of ground concerning development issues and a small handful of other matters. . . .

Gleaming tile floors, plain white walls, green plants, fresh flowers, a whiff of incense, and a solemn statue of Buddha mingle with the rumble of cars, trucks, and buses on Locust Street. This is meditation, not on some mountain top, not out in the woods, but embedded in bustle at the center of the city. And indeed there is stillness.
