Until something bad happens or something is different that we notice or when we find out how much this infrastructure costs. Some Riverwesters have been noticing a “smell” along the river and possibly in some homes. If you smell sewer gas or a plasticy smell in your home be sure to read the advice at the end of this column. Sewers create sewer gas, as part of normal operation, although you should not smell it in your home. It is not a pleasant smell.

Neighbor Spotlight: Nik Bastman
October is Nik Bastman’s favorite month. That will be obvious if you look at his arm on the front page. Of course the arm is attached to Nik all year long, celebrating fall colors, bats, pumpkins, ghosts and other delightful and slightly scary things throughout the year. That is just his right arm. I will discuss his left arm later.

Dr. Ian Harris is known as the “Father of Peace Education.” He has spent most of his 32 years at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee pioneering in the field of peace studies.
But his passion, and his inspiration, is the tract of wilderness between the Friends Meeting House and the Milwaukee River.
