Milwaukee LGBT Center Offers Programs for Youth

While working on the Community Calendar last month, I noticed that Project Q, the youth program of the Milwaukee Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender (LGBT) Community Center, is offering a new program: Young Women’s Night.I figured if I didn’t know what Young Women’s Night was, neither would you, so I dropped in on a Thursday to see what it was all about.

UWM Experimental Tuesdays

The headliner, Mr. Freedom, is part satire that takes itself seriously and part black comedy that isn’t funny. Filmed in 1967-8 by William Klein, it follows the adventures of the titular superhero/government agent who works for Freedom, Inc. and wears a suit made out of red, white, and blue athletic apparel. Though it begins as an over-the-top satire, the movie quickly degenerates into a didactic attack on the right and Cold War politics.

The Riverwest Music Scene: Plentiful and Diverse Sounds

Whether established bands or newcomers, professional musicians or the weekend warriors of Dire Straits’ Sultans of Swing, everyone out there is playing for the joy of making music. As Jim Linneman says of seeing people perform for the first time at his Wednesday open stage: “It’s just that feeling – I can feel it from them. . .that is my favorite night of the week.”
