Wisconsin Home Grown Lunch: Healthy Choices for Schools

Kids need healthy foods. Not cheap food, not convenient food. Food should be the top priority in the budget. As responsible adults, it’s our job to insist on it, and figure out how to make it happen.

There’s a great idea being fielded that offers an elegant, obvious solution to the problems of kids and food in schools. It’s called Wisconsin Home Grown Lunch, and it’s modeled on a number of farm-to-school initiatives that are springing up all over the country.

Why Are You Wearing that Stupid Man Suit?

Donnie Darko appeared on the festival circuit in 2001 to critical acclaim, and was picked up for limited theatrical distribution shortly thereafter. Typically playing in art houses and college theaters, the film played Milwaukee for two nights as part of the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee’s Spring 2002 screening series. Through word of mouth, the film has developed a cult following, and movie-lovers across the country are counting it among their favorite films.

Art as Band Aid

Who in their right mind really believes that the arts will reduce crime rates, keep our neighborhoods intact, solve environmental issues, bring nations together, prevent teen pregnancies, or do anything other than provide a transient moment between the viewer and that which the artist has produced? Well, lots of folks, it seems, for art has for many years been cast in the role of easing all manner of ills, both social and otherwise.
