The Gathering by the Waters festival is a meeting of three different tribes – Latino, Native, and Polish Americans of the Lincoln Village neighborhood. The event will celebrate the three cultures and give them a chance to break bread together, and enjoy music, a parade, and a peace offering ceremony at sunset.

The festival is being organized by Urban Anthropology, Inc. (UrbAn) where Llysa Spencer works as a cultural anthropologist.

Della Wells is a Milwaukee born, self-taught artist.  She was brought to Riverwest by a friend who had a building available. Living and making art in Riverwest is valuable to Ms. Wells, and she is well known and respected in the area. Although she is a late blooming artist, she has created a successful career depicting African American woman realizing the potential of their hopes and dreams.

Neighbor Spotlight March 2012

Story and Photo by Janice Christensen

Rebecca Nole is your typical Riverwester, inasmuch as Riverwesters are not typical people.

She was born in the Bronx and grew up in New York City and went to Farello Laguardia High School For Arts And The Performaing Arts. If that sounds familiar to anyone, it’s the school where the movie “Fame” was set.
