October 18 is the date of the Riverwest Heath Initiative Fall Festival, the first event planned for the newly neighborhood-controlled Kilbourn Park. It promises to be a new kind of health fair — friendly, fun, and with lots of FREE stuff! FREE high quality shoes for toddlers (while supplies last). FREE health screenings for diabetes and high blood pressure, and body mass index measurements by Columbia St. Mary’s and the Medical College of Wisconsin. FREE flu shots. FREE gifts and prizes for kids. Even a FREE car for one lucky person: there will be a drawing for a 1985 Oldsmobile Cutlass donated by Esperanza Unida — it’s a classic! There will be lots of demonstrations and activities for everyone. Fitness and health professionals will show you how yoga, massage, martial arts, and dance support a healthy lifestyle. Alternative health practitioners will open your eyes to new options. You can learn basic first aid and CPR. Enjoy a ramble over the Reservoir with a guide to tell you about its history and point out unique trees and plantings. Sample healthy foods from local establishments. Don’t miss this day of healthy fun. Bring the whole family to enjoy the “million dollar view” from our new Kilbourn Park at the Riverwest Health Initiative Fall Festival, October 18, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Kilbourn Park is located just south of North Avenue and Bremen Street.
