Why the Serviceberry?

Good for you good for wildlife and the envoirnment and good for the Co-op. The Serviceberry is a small multi-stem tree or shrub native to Wisconsin.

It is well suited for urban landscapes and naturalized areas. It can grow to 20ft.

Characteristics: White flowers in spring followed by sweet small berries that birds love to feed on. I once saw a flock of Cedar Waxwings feeding on the berries for 2 days in my Rivewest backyard. Provides food for the birds and you can eat the sweet fruit too!  Usually good fall color.

Habitat requirements : Grows well in lightly shaded areas, prefers well drained soil.

DONOR’S GROVE: Work with River Revitalization Foundation and plant your tree along the BeerLine Trail or have volunteers plant it on Arbor Day  weekend.

YOUR SERVICEBERRY WILL BE PLANTED ALONG THE MILWAUKEE RIVER  TRAILS FOR ALL TO ENJOY. YOU CAN PLANT IT ON ARBOR DAY 4/27 OR SATURDAY 4/28 OR LET US PLANT IT FOR YOU.

We will be at  Gordon Park  (parking  lot 2800 block of Humboldt)  10 am on Friday and Saturday April 27 and 28. Meet at 10am finish by Noon.
