Folaron Demands Shepherd Express Correct Slander

February 5, 2004–At a 3:00 p.m. news conference at City Hall, Mayoral Candidate Sandy Folaron demanded that the Shepherd Express explain the egregious error in a recent article that stated Folaron did not pay her taxes on time. This appeared in a story written by Doug Hissom in the latest issue of the newspaper on Wednesday, February 4th. Today Folaron confirmed with the City Treasurer that Hissom did not check the matter with them and that there were no requests for any of the candidates’ tax information.

Chess Academix

It’s 3 p.m. on a Thursday afternoon at Messmer Preparatory school, and kids start tumbling in after class. Within minutes, a woman named Miracle Cross has them seated at their tables, quiet and listening, and she starts their lessons for the day. “Before you move on the chessboard, just like before you do anything at home, you have to do what?” she asks. “Think before you move,” they respond. Cross continues, “You can lose a chess game. Can you lose your life? You can make a mistake in life, and sometimes you don’t get a chance to start over.” They look at her, thinking about what she says.
