Two programs coming up about the formerly named School of the Americas (S.O.A.) in Ft. Benning, Ga., which trains mainly Latin Americans in terrorist type tactics that have been used by graduates who have tortured, raped, and killed nuns & priests, labor unionists, and other human rights activists in Central & South America for decades: On MCM–Channel 96, “Blood on our Hands”–U.S. Trained Terrorists will be shown throughout the month of October on Thursdays (starting today, Oct. 2) at 4 p.m. and Sundays (ending Oct. 30) at 8 p.m. The program will include the documentary, “The New Patriots,” giving background information about The School of the Americas, plus a taped interview by former Peace Action Program Director Tom Seery with long time Milwaukee community activist Joyce Ellwanger, who was arrested at last year’s annual S.O.A. demonstration and has been serving a six month sentence in federal prison. On Sunday, Oct. 19, at 7 p.m. “The New Patriots” will also be shown with added footage from other documentaries about S.O.A. and a replay of another interview with Joyce Ellwanger and Katherine Bjorkman, a 19 year old college student, who has completed a three month sentence in federal prison, this being her first offense. This event will be held at the Peace Action Center, 1001 E. Keefe, and is free with refreshments and discussion afterwards. Joyce Ellwanger will have completed her sentence by then and is expected to be present. Joyce Ellwanger is being featured in the cover story of this week’s (Oct. 2-8) Shepherd Express here in Milwaukee.
