The Riverwest Neighborhood Association (RNA) met Tuesday, Feb. 11, despite a heavy snowfall that canceled a number of area activities and closed Mitchell International Airport for the evening. The turnout of more than a dozen members was surprising, considering not only the weather but the fact that the main objective of the meeting was to discuss revisions to the association’s bylaws, which were introduced in the January meeting. Over the course of an uncharacteristically long meeting, the RNA passed six of 14 articles in the bylaws. The sections that were passed dealt with participation and membership, the purpose and mission of the RNA, meeting guidelines, and elections. Revisions and approval of the final articles of the bylaws will be addressed in the March meeting. In other RNA business: • Mark McInerney was introduced as a new community partner. (see article) • Russ Davis, owner of Bella Luna Pasta and Cafe Vecchio Mondo, presented his proposal for a restaurant and retail facility in a vacant building at the east end of Center Street, adjacent to Gordon Park. Davis addressed concerns about parking and service vehicle traffic, and asked for suggestions from RNA members. Attendees expressed their general support for the project and recommended a meeting between Davis and residents in the area of the proposed business. • Friends of Milwaukee’s Rivers (FMR) are looking for volunteers for their 8th Annual River Cleanup Saturday, April 26. Call Jen at (414) 476-6042 or e-mail mriver@ameritech.net for more information. • The next meeting of the RNA is set for Tuesday, March 11, 7 p.m., at the CDC office at 604 E. Center St. The RNA meets on the second Tuesday of each month. Meetings are held at 7 p.m. at the CDC office at 604 E. Center St. Everyone is welcome, and all neighborhood residents are eligible to vote. Riverwest Currents – Volume 2 – Issue 3 – March 2003
