As part of the National Wal-mart Day of Action, a crowd picketed the 401 E. Capitol Drive Wal-mart on November 21 to protest its labor practices. Supervisor Willie Johnson, who represents our district, spoke at the rally. A “Holiday Grinch” presented Wal-Mart with the “Grinch of the Year Award.” Participants wore clothing with union logos and “Sweat Free” apparel. The event was sponsored by the Faith Community For Worker Justice, Jobs With Justice, Milwaukee County Labor Council, Students For Corporate Responsibility, United Food and Commercial Workers Union Local 1444, Wisconsin Citizen Action, Wisconsin Fair Trade Campaign, and Wisconsin State AFL-CIO. See this page at WalmartDayofAction.com to read about the criticism and desired reforms that are being levelled at Wal-mart. Tom Daykin reported on the campaign in the Journal Sentinel prior to the event.
