An estimated 2 million incidents of housing discrimination occur each year. However, the vast majority of these illegal acts go unreported. According to the fair housing laws, it’s illegal to consider race, national origin, color, religion, sex, disability, age, sexual orientation, lawful source of income, marital status, or family status in rental, sales or homeowners insurance decisions. When you are treated unfairly and do nothing about it you are not only allowing yourself to be robbed of your civil rights, you are telling the law breaker that it is okay to rob the next person of their civil rights as well. So please, if you suspect that you may have experienced any unlawful practices in your housing pursuit or have any questions pertaining to housing discrimination, take action. Please call the Metropolitan Milwaukee Fair Housing Council for more information, (414) 278-1240. All calls are free of charge and handled by experienced fair housing enforcement staff.
