Riverwest Currents has been published as a neighborhood newsletter over the past three years. It was started by Vince Bushell, a community planner, and Jeanne Geraci, a community organizer for the YMCA. Now in monthly newspaper form, Riverwest Currents is supported by a grant from H.O.M.E. (Housing Opportunities Made Equal). Part of our mission is to promote fair housing and to encourage the preservation of the diversified home ownership that now exists in the Riverwest area. But there will be much more to this newspaper: we will keep you informed about events going on in or relevant to the neighborhood and other things of interest to residents and visitors. Each month’s edition will include news and views by and about a variety of Riverwest residents, a calendar of events, a local business spotlight, housing opportunities, Riverwest Neighborhood Association news, Community Outing Association news, a naturalist’s column by Ken Leinbach of the Urban Ecology Center, church and education-related news in our neighborhood, and more. We also hope to include letters and opinions from you, the residents of this neighborhood. –Sonya Jongsma Knauss
